You’ll be able to assign custom aliases to APs in NetSpot 2. However, let me check it with my team concerning the main issue outlined here.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterYou should have done this the moment you had the issue: onair@netspotapp.com
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt’s a well-known fact that hiding your network’s SSID does not protect you in any way:

etc…But it’s surely up to you whether you want to keep your network name hidden or not.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThe newer build of NetSpot with fixes related to this issue has been emailed to you.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterCan you send your project to onair@netspotapp.com for a review? We’ll send you an updated non-released build for testing then.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAutomatic saving will be available in NetSpot 2.0. I’m really sorry to hear that it froze on your project. Hopefully there was an intermediary copy saved.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThat’s a feature for version 2. Stay tuned. We will add the possibility to use external AirPort-compatible adapters soon.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterOK, after a long discussion we have an update on this topic. Within NetSpot 2.x we will implement a kind of “no-scanning” zones, which would be used to exclude custom areas on the map from scanning. I guess this would let you achieve the desired result. It would also be convenient to exclude things like thick walls, closed areas inside of the building, columns, neighboring offices, etc. So, stay tuned. And thanks for bringing your arguments to our attention, which is really appreciated.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThinking
Alex – NetSpotKeymaster1. It actually did. Check it out: since version 1.3 NetSpot will only calculate WiFi coverage in “green” areas where it has real data collected, or (!) between them. When you are adding sampling points, you will see green circles around each of them. This green indicates the areas where NetSpot is capable of approximating the real signal and where the heatmap is as accurate as possible. Before version 1.3, it would have approximated the whole area which you bordered out, which is not actually correct, and the resulting heatmap was less reliable. The new approach also encourages users to take as many samples as possible even close to the walls, so you get the most actual visualization.
2. Sorry. No.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWell, I’m not sure: /help/are-results-directional
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWill be fixed. Thanks for denoting that.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThe best recommendation here would be: take several surveys, use different body positions and different paths. Then compare the results, that’ll give you the answer whether the body position influences the results in your case. Based on our experience: /help/tips-and-hints-running-a-wireless-site-survey/ (preview version of the new website and knowledgebase)

Got it now. We will fix this in NetSpot 2.
ctdawe said: I might like to be able to engage an “edit” action in an existing survey so that I can change several parameters
Acceptable and useful feature request. Added to our roadmap. Thanks
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi there, thanks for your comments…
ctdawe said: 1. I would like NetSpot to remember the zoom level for a floor plan that I’m using so that I don’t have to re-zoom every time I open the file.
Zoom level… hm… ok! I’ll let you know when this might be available.
ctdawe said: 2. I would like NetSpot to remember if I have customized visualization settings
Version 2.0. Already planned.
ctdawe said: 3. I would love to be able to define some defaults
Makes sense. I need to discuss this with my team first.
ctdawe said: 4. Finally, I’m unclear on what triggers NetSpot to recalculate results in a survey to display new interpretations of its data
Didn’t get this one. What exactly do you mean? If you don’t add any new data (sampling points), don’t switch the visualization and don’t change networks’ selection, data shouldn’t be recalculated by itself.
