Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThere’s a new build of NetSpot 1.1 (1.1.284, ~4MB) available for download. We fixed the annoying bug with slow scanning on Lion, and EXTREMELY slow networks polling on Snow Leopard. Please update your copies of NetSpot. We are ready for new feature requests and bug reports. Thanks
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterOnly image files for now. But you can easily export any other map format into an image, right? I don’t think we’ll be able to support AutoCAD’s format soon, but some time in the future… may be
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThanks a lot! Glad you liked NetSpot.

The video is actually available at the website… right on the main page.

That’s a good idea and will definitely be done some time.

That’s definitely a nice feature. And we are already planning it in the next release.

We are still checking this issue, but it seems like the cause is in Mac OS 10.6, we too confirm that in Lion scanning is much faster.
Paraujo, can you send the feedback from NetSpot too?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe were also able to find out which error exactly happens during your scans within NetSpot, and it is “Device not configured”, which actually means that it may be a misconfiguration of your hardware, or drivers, or else, but it is very specific to your system. We haven’t come across this error before.
Waiting for your refreshed in-app feedback. And thanks for your help.

Ok, got the update from the team. While this is technically possible and might be implemented in one of the next updates, it won’t necessarily be faster to scan 1-2-3 selected networks (this requires 1-2-3 calls to your Wi-Fi adapter) rather than polling the whole range once.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterrichcortes said: Yes both Airmagnet and Ekahau run under Windows. I believe it is a fair comparison since they are both for the most part industry standards when it comes to site surveys. The fact that one is windows and one is mac has no relevance from a site survey engineer prospective.
You are surely right. From the user’s perspective there’s no difference. But technically, Mac OS and Windows can work differently with the same hardware.
richcortes said: BTW, at what point during the process should I send the feedback? When I initially click for my current location, half way through, towards the end or when it is complete? Let me know.
Just after several measurements will be enough.

To check the coverage of a specific network only you just need to select it in the sidebar after the scan is complete. However, if you want to survey only a specific AP, it’s not yet possible in NetSpot, though I’ll discuss this with my team and let you know if we implement this and when. Thanks for this feature request.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAbsolutely not normal. Can you send the feedback again?

They both run under Windows, not Mac, right? So I don’t think it’s an equivalent comparison.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThanks to your feedback sent directly from NetSpot, we were able to confirm that the cause of such long scanning in your case are errors, in most cases undocumented once. We would suspect that there’s another software actively accessing your AirPort hardware at the moment of scanning.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterGot your feedback report, thanks
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterBy default, NetSpot selects _available_ networks, so those that either have security set to None, or those your MacBook can connect to at the time of scanning (saved password, etc).
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterGreat notice. We’ll definitely improve that issue. Thanks
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterOk, the easiest what we can do now is to ask you for a feedback sent directly from NetSpot _AFTER_ you experience the unknown error again, this will help us find out what exactly is wrong. There’s a “Send feedback” button on the toolbar or the same option in the Menu. Thanks
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi there, it would be much better if you could create a separate thread for this issue. Let me find out which troubleshooting steps we should run in your case. Hold on…
