Absolutely true.
However, to make this an exceptional choice, you need more than just a Wi-Fi survey app, it’s really important to analyze the whole signal spectrum with additional hardware like WiSpy (support is coming). So currently, the best option in your case would be using any tool like Apple’s Wi-Fi Diagnostic (/System/Library/CoreServices/) that will switch your Airport adapter into passive mode, locate all hidden networks for you, so you can then import that list into NetSpot. You can do this in your whole area, so you are somewhat assured that you got all of them listed. Unfortunately, there’s no other way around this currently, as we strongly believe that NetSpot should not have any sniffing-like features embedded.
One of the next versions of NetSpot will have the automatic suggestion for optimal channel choice.
PS: sorry for the delayed follow-up.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSent them to you too.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterFlavio, first of all, thanks for another great post. Secondly, WiSpy _will_ be supported by NetSpot at a certain point. We talked to guys from Metageek, and they kindly offered their SDK to us. Finally, we are aware of existing spectrum analyzers for iPhone/iPad, but we just didn’t have the opportunity to test them yet… but overall, the idea has legs. And even buying additional hardware makes sense in comparison to buying any license of NetSpot’s competitor for Windows.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi Rich, valshare and Flavio. Check your emails.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSeems like it’s exactly how the feature is going to actually work.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSure, will be there in the next build. Thanks for the hint.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIf you are ready to edit some plist files manually, email us at onair@netspotapp.com for instructions. This functionality is not yet public.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIf you want to have more than 1 zone in NetSpot Free, you can always create 2 projects for 2 levels in your house.
And yes, if you want to create multi-zone projects, and place more than 50 samples per project, and use other advanced features of NetSpot, you should upgrade to NetSpot PRO.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi Iuri, you are definitely right about the reason why NetSpot reports a lower Internet speed. While it can’t be changed the simple way, I would question the real need to report the maximum Internet speed with your ISP, for instance. We are checking the Internet speed here, right? But there will be a way to configure server address in NetSpot soon.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterNetSpot updated to version 2.1.402: http://www.netspotapp.com/getnetspot
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterOK, everyone. This topic will be unpinned. As we are close to revealing NetSpot 2.1 to the public. Stay tuned.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIs this question related to NetSpot’s Discover Mode? What made you think that there should be much noise on this floor? We suspect that -92 is the lowest signal your MacBook’s AirPort adapter can detect, and in fact there’s not much noise in the area you are measuring.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi Dan, I’m not sure why exactly you don’t think that existing knowledgebase is much better than a standard old-fashioned manual. Start here: /help/tips-and-hints-running-a-wireless-site-survey/ then follow up: /help/what-is-discover-mode/ and finally: /help/how-do-i-start-my-survey/ – then you are good to go to other sections. Everything’s there.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSent the link to you as well.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi again, long time no updates here, yeah? Emailed you…
