Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt does sound like both issues that you mentioned in your last post are related to timeouts in iperf3. Is there any chance you can get a clean compiled official iperf3 client and test it in the same conditions as NetSpot? Based on our tests, we suspect you may have the same issues, and they are somewhere inside iperf lib. We keep our own tests and would update you once we find out anything new. We might be wrong, as we could not reproduce all of the bugs reported by you.
ps: and I’m sorry for a few weeks of silence… had to wait longer for my team to come back with more or less useful update to your case.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi again, can you try this with OS X 10.10.1 update? It does seem that the problem is being caused by Apple’s framework, and they seem to have accepted that within the latest bug fix: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1779
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe have reproduced the issue on 10.10. Working on it now…
Alex – NetSpotKeymaster@doovers, can you try the following build for me, and let me know if you still experience the gaps in the chart?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterGood point. Completely true. You can’t access WiFi technical data on iOS. And it doesn’t look like they are going to change that. Not an open platform. Never was. Unfortunately.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi there, many NetSpot users prefer editing their projects on a bigger screen! What you describe here is a kind of technician license we are discussing internally for quite some time now. Email me at al@etwok.com and I’ll send you the one before we have this automated.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe are really glad to have such clients as you. Keep breaking it. We’ll fix it, it’s the job we love :)
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterGot it… I was going to offer the snapshots functionality to you, but wanted to check again first. Anyway, yes: /help/zone-snapshots/
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWorking on this now. Need more time and testing.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterCan you give this build a try? https://netspotapp.com/buildz/2.4.x/2.4.572/NetSpot.dmg
All the issues you reported should be fixed. The build will go public shortly.
Alex – NetSpotKeymaster@doovers, just confirming, “no packet loss” during ping, and no gaps in NetSpot? Or gaps _with_ stable WiFi connection?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterJust like a replay of the existing survey? Can you always guarantee you are standing in the same spot where a sample was taken previously?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterDo you, guys, think it’s anyhow related to the known OS X 10.10’s WiFi issues (macrumors.com/2014/10/30/yosemite-wi-fi-connection-issues)?
Is the ping to the router stable or also dropping some packets randomly? We are looking into this as well. I personally experienced the same on my MB Air with Yosemite, but it got somehow self-resolved.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAnd I’m glad to let everyone know that this has been integrated into NetSpot’s Preferences: /help/netspot-2-4
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThanks a lot for the follow-up! And yes, we are trying to be as open as possible. Doing our best, still coping with eternal problem of all the developers on Earth: lack of time and resources :)
> it leads to (unnecessary) frustration from users, but not pointed to the reality (Apple), but to the developers
Thanks for understanding. In Apple’s eco-system, developing something like NetSpot sometimes seems to be “unwanted” by Apple itself, though the product and the technology is such a perfect fit to mobile computers by Cupertino team… And actually many people from Apple like NetSpot, get back to us with feature requests and very nice feedback.
> it is possible to use external interfaces, but these have to use AirPort API
Correct. But up till now we are unable to confirm anything specific here with a more or less extensive test results, unfortunately.
> there is a (internal) test tool available to test capabilities of devices. No? Is there a reason why such tool isn’t public?
As we are not sure this test utility works, we don’t want it to be publicly available. You are probably person #7 who will get this tool, and no one has reported any success with their external WiFi adapters yet. So it’s a very very preliminary topic for NetSpot at the moment. Though we are definitely making some random attempts in this direction.
> WiSpy support, predictive surveys, external devices support
That’s our timeline with a global look into the future. Our apologies that some features are still in the workshop. If we can, we name more definitive release dates. Your comments noted. And we thank you for supporting our passion for new features in NetSpot. As an excuse (hopefully a temporary one), see above about time and resources…
And thanks again for keeping in touch. Your feedback is always welcome! All the topics are open at this forum :)
