Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe are actually heading on to NetSpot PRO with advanced features for those users who find the app worth an investment, so just stay tuned and you will be able to become our PRO user soon. Thanks for your kind offer of a donation. We will also ensure that there’s always a free edition of NetSpot that will help most users handle a professional wireless site survey of their area.
Concerning Apple’s iOS SDK… the real problem is not getting data FROM the iOS device to Mac, or else. It’s impossible to get access to wireless adapter on iPhone or iPad and get any data out of it. And actually, their wireless adapters are not that powerful in comparison with the Mac’s one. So the data might be slightly less accurate.
Alex – NetSpotKeymaster2ufoguy: nice, man!
2foobar: got ’em, I’ll update you shortly.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe keep investigating this. Thanks for sending the project. Can you also take a screenshot of your Wi-Fi network configuration from the Airport Utility for Airport Extreme and for TimeCapsule (and email it to me)?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAfter talking to my team, I can also recommend manual editing of the survey file, as it’s just a compiled plist. Hope this workaround helps you avoid the clutter in your Wi-Fi projects :)
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSorry for the delay. And it seems like surveys will be renamed only starting with NetSpot 2. Unfortunately, this tiny feature isn’t in the app now.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi there, that’s not true, NetSpot is capable of surveying all Wi-Fi frequencies. Is there the same SSID on multiple frequencies, and those Access Points that are broadcasting on 5GHz are not detected by NetSpot, but those on 2.4 are? Can you send us your .netspd project for review?
Thank you

It really doesn’t matter. You can be connected or disconnected from the network in question and still handling a very successful and true-to-life survey.
radicalbiscuit said: Oh, and I’m quite familiar with signal to noise ratio. So I’m a little unsure as to what the difference between SNR and signal to interference ratio is. In the scans I’ve run so far, signal to interference has been much lower (worse) than SNR. What can I extrapolate from each?
The signal-to-interference ratio is similar to the signal-to-noise ratio, but in this case the interference is specific to co-channel interference from other radio transmitters. According to some opinions wireless devices will work reliably with the SIR ratio of 0dB (decibels) or less. If you click on the measurement markers on the map, you can see the exact ratio(s) for each location.
The signal-to-noise ratio compares the level of the Wi-FI signal to the level of background noise. A ratio of 10-15dB is the accepted minimum to establish an unreliable connection; 15-25dB (decibels) is usually considered bad; 25-40dB is a good signal and a ratio of 41dB or higher is considered excellent. If you click on the measurement markers on the map, you can see the exact ratio(s) for each location.
Hope this helps.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt’s really unfortunate that the wrong position of the sample point was not corrected right away. That’s what the undo is for. I’m talking to the team about at least removing any points from the survey. Hold on.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterYes, we are working on a more flexible export in NetSpot 2.0, but it won’t be possible in NetSpot 1.x, unfortunately.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterCan you send your .netspd project file to us for investigation?
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt’s mathematics… That point you want to delete influences data on other samples you have taken. Why would you want to delete that point? If you have taken it and marked your position incorrectly, I believe you should have redone this one right away.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt’s truly a great hint, and a very nice app!
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterYep, version 2.0 will have that. However, every hidden SSID you add manually will make every scan longer… a bit.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThanks. We would be extremely glad to get any help with the Wi-Fi SDK for iOS from Apple. Otherwise we can only deliver something on jailbroken devices.
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterThank you for providing these details. Data import for APs’ naming is surely a great feature for Wi-Fi professional. We are discussing these now with the team.
