I've tried many few WiFi survey apps…
I've tried many few WiFi survey apps before NetSpot. Of course, there always are things that can be improved but the team (commercial and technical) is very responsive and fast to answer. I'm working for a school, and I thought about buying a PRO license for my job there. After trying it for 1 days with a work-study student, I decided we needed it, but I didn't feel like giving my work computer to my students (trainees or work-study) to do surveys to train them, and I asked them if I could have another license cheaper for training. They granted me 1 totally free PRO license after buying 1. So 2 for the price of 1 with lifetime upgrade on top of their educational discount, which is nice. Also, I had a bug with the "planning mode", it was fixed the day after I let them know by email. It's by far the best price/quality ratio I have seen so far.

new version is a lot better
The new version 3.2 is a lot better than older versions. Finally it is possible to directly import PDF-files instead of only image files. Because every normal floor plan is in PDF format. Thanks for that. Also the Wifi Planning Feature is nice where we can select our exact AP models. We really like your solution. What I kinda miss is training on how to use the software correctly. Is there something like that already? Thanks for your product!

A long time ago I bought the PRO version 2 of NetSpot and have always been very satisfied with it. After a computer problem, I could no longer install version 2 and asked the support for help. With a lot of commitment and after several days, the support found an optimal solution for me. Because of this support, which is unique for me, I am full of praise for the great support. Thank you very much at this point.
Good for home use, to a point
I bought this to set up 3 WAPs for my parents, whose house has very thick stone walls that almost completely block wifi. The instantaneous measurement tool and the survey tool were both very useful, and I eventually found an acceptable layout. In particular, being able to overlay the floor plan on an interpolated heatmap of signal strength was key. That said, I bought the cheapest version (since it was a small-scale one-off) and the features they lock behind the second paywall often feel more like arbitrary withholding to annoy you (e.g. the ability to name discovered MAC addresses) rather than legitimately separated upsells (e.g. the predictive planning features). This is annoying if you have 3 floors, but since the third floor for me was small and less important, I chose to guess at wifi coverage instead of shelling out way more for the second pricing tier. I had hoped the survey heatmap would reveal radio shadows that I could plan around, but they were not obvious. I do not know if this is a shortcoming of the tool or just the confusing nature of many stone walls, but I did notice the interpolation in the heatmap making obviously wrong inferences (i.e. guessing at a strong signal on the far side of a measurement taken in a dead zone), so I can’t rule out that it was the tool. On the whole a worthy purchase, but I think my usage was about the practical limit of the basic feature set. I would not the home version for any location with more than 3 WAPs, more than 2 floors, or significant environmental interference or attenuation. The data point limit and the snapshot limit were non-issues for my usage.
Best ever Software
This is one of the best software for WiFi survey. I have been in the industry for over 20 yrs now and this is on of the most easiest ones to use. Works great when trying to troubleshoot existing sites. Or creating a new site survey to install. Customer service is top notch and responds fast to your requests for assistance and questions.

I have had Netspot for over 5 years and found it very helpful to find any WIFI dead spots in my house. Support is also very effective and professional. I did not have to wait for a reply email more than a few hours to get any kind of help at all, even when I lost my activation code when I reinstall my OS. Analyzing Wireless Office Network Architecture
Very first review - Since a couple of weeks, we have evaluated and ordered NetSpot with Enterprise feature set as our future wireless network analyzing tool. We have started to identify optimization zones in our implemented wireless network landscape right now, covering approximately one hundred access points, distributed over different office building floors. We are really satisfied with the usability of this analyzing software. Although NetSpot provides extensive and precise online support, the client software with its three general function modes is easy to understand, easy to manage, even if you have IT network related know how. After a view function checks, an office building project with relevant office floor analyzing zones, based on available office architecture maps, was created. All relevant aliases of our wireless network components were listed according to NetSpot specifications and then easily imported for analyzing transparency. You can get fast results about radio signal coverage in Survey Mode, which can give you a very first indication what is going on in your wireless office environment – just from signal reception perspective. But you need to know, that you are talking about a snapshot, which needs to be further analyzed, even in case you think, you have already detected an anomaly area, were radio signal coverage and download bandwidth are not enough for your wireless network clients. Collaboration with somebody managing the network, being able to change access point signal strength is helpful. So, after a handful of fine granular measuring rounds, based on different signal strength and a comparison of the related heatmaps, it is now easy to identify or confirm “anomaly” signal strength in office sections. These are the areas, were changing the radio signal strength of available access points nearby is not effective and signal or download bandwidth remains on a low “dBm” or “Mbit/s” level. Here we have the position, which can trigger access point test mounting, to confirm an additional future implementation position – just measure again, move or fix the access point - Great! Our radio network architecture was professionally simulated before implementation of the planned access points. But building architecture changes, department or workplace removals, setup of new conference rooms or cabinets inevitably lead to changes in Wi-Fi reception quality. These signal quality effects need to be detected and compensated depending on their strength. Now we can really manage and optimize our wireless network architecture and make wireless visible! So, Survey Mode is king for us – Planning Mode to be evaluated in the future.

I recently had the opportunity to use NetSpot for conducting wireless surveys for my clients. Given that wireless surveys are not a daily task for us, finding a cost-effective solution was crucial. Recommended Wifi Solution
I've been using NetSpot at home and it's been a game changer for setting up my WiFi. Despite having a UniFi system and WiFiman at my fingertips, I still opted to pay for NetSpot. What I love about it is how it hits the sweet spot between being powerful and user-friendly. The heatmap feature is a standout for me; it lets me map out my WiFi coverage directly on my floor plan. Plus, it's super cool how it breaks down coverage by access point and band, so I can easily figure out where my WiFi is strongest and which network types give the best QoS in different parts of my house.

Very easy and power tool. it helped us design a very complicated wireless network under 19 hours. 6 floors, 200 rooms. we found the weak spots easily and placed our access point where it should be to be more effective . After 20 years of experience, I can say this is the first time I am fully satisfied with my wireless network design. I didn't have to guess or do much of trial and error to get what the client needed

The survey tool is very helpful and the new planning mode is ok but since it is new just needs further development. I sampled 250 points in a large warehouse and we were able to make some major improvements in house without having to hire an IT contractor.

I have used a few of these types of software in my field before, but Nunn has matched the efficiency and ease of use of Netspot. Being able to generate heat Maps that show actual throughput testing as well to give to clients is a game changer and instills a supreme amount of confidence in the network itself from the client. For someone who has to design a network on houses that are one to 2 years away from being built - planning is amazing and helps show how each material affects the signal to the clients. Great software, great support and it just works.

I' ve bought netspot to plan the renewal of our accesspoints in our numerous branches. I didn' have a specific accesspoint, so i contacted the customer support. After I told them which accesspoint was needed, they' ve added it after a day. Now i' m planning and it works great.
App seems to work flawlessly. User UI on android is easy and intuitive to navigate and use. Downloaded and tested the free version, so unable to do anything useful besides playing with the options. Indeed, "free" complies with the Google service definition as "free to download". Not free to use 👍🏻

Just The Facts
NetSpot is the best yet and I've tried dozens and I just want a honest answer to my Wi-Fi problems. Weather its the router or the provider or the wind blowing the wrong way or its me trying my latest DIY with foil wrapped around it and coat hangers for antennas. And to be totally honest the price of Wi-Fi is well you know where I'm headed with that. Its good to have a Wi-Fi tool that does more than toss a graph and tell you what you already know and by the way I'm willing to pay for it not looking for a free anything. Honestly the whole situation gets old. I'm willing to do my part umm minus the foil and coat hangers to get it right.
Outstanding Quality for a budget friendly price.
My grandma asked me for help fixing her 2 floor house wifi, I could have simply put a couple of extenders and call it a day but I decided to go beyond and a run a Wifi Site map. I initially was skeptical about if this was worth the time bit I waS so wrong, I got my mind blown away once I looked at the results, it was amazing.

The app works great, intuitive and easy to use. The Windows app cannot adjust the order the zones are displayed. When surveying a multi level building, the reports are not clear as the zones are all mixed up. The feature appears to be available in mac. I hope the windows app can have the same zone reorder feature added too. It's a very basic but essential requirement. The app should work the same independently of the OS type.

I needed a solution to map and optimize a residential wifi network. Several issues compounded the challenge separate to wifi signal strength & quality but there were distinct interference issues from nearest neighbor routers and a CCTV monitoring system that required diagnosing. After sampling a few apps I leaned toward Netspot's ease of use and cross platform functionality to deliver what I needed. However, a key selling feature to me has been the ongoing technical support guiding results interpretation and tuning wifi adjustments. Bravo Netspot!

NetSpot is a seriously professional product at consumer prices. For home users it can demystify WiFi signal strength variations and provide the information needed for router, access point, or mesh placement(s) and WiFi signal propagation. As many IT folks have reviewed this product, this review is written with the home user in mind. For the basic tech-savvy home user, I think it’s the best bang-for-the-buck WiFi analysis and heat map product out there. Having said this, it has a moderate learning curve. Although it lacks a cohesive online or printed operation manual, the online “Help” section is well laid out and is easy to follow – and, most important, the email support staff at NetSpot are fantastic!!! They have typically responded to me within a business day (often within hours) with polite, concrete answers. With the help of these answers, it was easy to find well-written explanations in the online “Help” section. To use NetSpot you’ll need a to-scale floorplan of the WiFi area (true of any heat map product). NetSpot makes this easier by allowing the import of JPG files (among other file types), meaning you can take a picture of the floorplan and use it. It’s recommended to begin with a trial version of NetSpot loaded on either a Mac or Windows laptop, which doubles as the WiFi measuring device and producing the heat map product(s). Be sure to read through the NetSpot online “Help” section for guidance. Don’t be dissuaded by critical reviews on android sites about a similarly named NetSpot survey app. NetSpot offers its survey product (signal strength, overlapping channels, etc.) as an app which is meant to integrate with its Mac or PC product. While some complain this free survey tool requires a paid software package to generate a heat map, it’s actually a fantastic tool that permits an Android phone (or Chromebook) to conduct the survey, rather than taking around a laptop or desktop computer. Due to Apple’s iPhone app restrictions, it’s not possible to use an iPhone for this purpose. In summary, this is the tool you’ve been looking for to find out exactly what WiFi signals are getting though in some parts of your house, but not others. Discover what WiFi channels have interference from neighbors or from your own APs. See download speeds. Quit guessing.

The free version of this app is brilliant! Not only free but ad free as well, does everything I need. Should I ever need to upgrade to the paid app I'd happily do so. If you need to check WiFi strengths, signals and channels then this is the app for you!

I found NetSpot to be intuitive, easy to use, and information rich. The enterprise version for $499 allows unlimited use of all NetSpot capabilities for 10 users. And lifetime upgrades for only $199. NetSpot doesn’t just give a heat map of the survey area, it allows detailed analysis of numerous factors influencing WLAN design. To quote the CWNA Study Guide: “Present-day wireless networks need to provide the coverage that was sought when early site surveys were performed, but they also need to provide higher throughput for denser deployments of stations. To achieve these goals, the site survey must encompass much more than just determining coverage, including looking for potential sources of interference.” NetSpot provides the kind of information needed to evaluate a modern Wi-Fi network. It even has a feature called “Active Scan” that allows the user to test real time throughput with a utility such as Iperf for measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth. With the low initial cost, and the attractively priced lifetime upgrades, I have to recommend NetSpot. NetSpot is also up to the task of providing the data needed to evaluate a modern Wi-Fi environment.
This app is incredibly useful. There are more powerful competitor products, but they cost thousands of dollars per year. This app allowed me to create a detailed signal map to optimize my AP placement. Some construction materials that block your signals are obvious, but there are always things you can’t predict without actually testing!

Not NetSpot’s Fault
Apple, in the interest of privacy and security, has locked down everything; the ability to scan surrounding networks and map signal strength and channels being one of them. On the one hand it’s ridiculous that can’t be done on my phone, on the other hand, unrelated apps tracking this info may have gotten too much and I appreciate the extra security precautions/restrictions Apple has placed on IOS. So, I can’t rate this app a low score for requiring a separate USB device to do something with the iPhone that would normally use iPhone hardware. Note: I’m not affiliated with NetSpot developers
Intuitive program to improve Wi-Fi coverage
NetSpot is an intuitive tool to improve the Wi-Fi coverage. I was able to gain a huge better quality in my own home on two floors within one hour by moving and rotating four access points. NetSpot also gave me a better look to the neighbors Wi-Fi channels, so that we could improve the channels in the whole neighborhood by changing them to more meaningful ones. The network speed is now faster than ever and finally stable.
One of the “go to” tools for my consulting business. Wifi heat map is very useful for office environments but I more frequently use the wifi browser in a “home” situation to confirm what base stations are transmitting on what frequency.

Very useful. I was able to fix network issues by pinpointing channels with interference. Instead of using the normal 1 6 11 , this tool allowed me to find the right channels to avoid neighbors devices. I turned off weak and low signal scanning because those would not interfere with me. All the features are very well planned.

Very easy to use and great for showing basic info about what other WiFi access points are contending for specific frequency ranges, and who strong your signal is for a given access point anywhere in your home. I used it to setup my extender instead of using the manufacturers app that only tells you "you can locate a little farther", which is not really useful, and NetSpot provided the info I needed. I also like the speed test feature which provides more good information, because signals strength and speed are not always in alignment on a wireless network. Overall, very easy to use and provides the information most people would need for setting up a home network.

A huge help for setting up my wifi! Everyone is working from home. Everyone has WiFi. I used this app to find some good options for my new WiFi network, and hopefully I can stay out of the way of my neighbors and have a great connection. It just works, and the data presentation is great.

I found NetSpot very easy to use and quickly identifiy the strongest wifi signal areas and any dead spots. Importing and scaling a floorplan was remarkably simple as was manually adjusting the position of the APs on the plan. I'd reccomend NetSpot to anyone needing an insight into the wifi environment in their home or office. And for a proffesional it is clearly an indispensable tool for taking the guesswork out of building an efficient wifi infrastructure. Many thanks for a superb product.

I really like this kind of technology and stuff and I’m starting to go deeper in it, as it makes life easier without the need of having to call specialized technicians and stuff and gives much better management of the whole house, being that home automation is kicking in fast and becomes a much more complex network.

NetSpot works extremely well on the latest OS X. Very good info collected for wireless networks, especially if you are a techie! The mapping feature is highly useful to show wireless coverage, or lack of it, to my clients.
