Also, any reason why your servers do not answer when I opt for download?

I think what would work is a team viewer it LogMeIn (that’s what I have) session. Since you can’t reproduce it and I can it seems the only recourse. They can see it happen, look at the console, the keychain, etc. Of course that would need a phone call too and i know how shy the engineers are.

I stand corrected. I turned off iCloud Keychain and deleted all my SSID’s and then logged into each network. For some reason it creates 2 entries. one of each entry you can modify access control and add Netspot. The other does not allow modification. But it still asks for keychain access each and every time it tests each SSID. So I’m at a total loss.

Well I updated (painful) to 10.11 (per your suggestion) and the problem still exists. It’s still asking to ALLOW access to the keychain. I have created other posts describing the problem and yet I get any answers. The problem is that for every SSID in the keychain, a duplicate is created if you use iCloud Keychain: Netspot, when asking for access, is grabbing the iCloud Keychain version which does not allow you to “ALWAYS ALLOW” access. So I have to authorize each time it does a spot in the survey – 3 times. This is insane. I have waited weeks for support to give me an answer and its one of the reason i PAID for the pro version. I have gotten silence. This is the worst customer service I have experienced on a product. No phone support. And email support that doesn’t even answer questions I have repeatedly asked.

In it’s current form, the product as advertised does not work – or rather is so painfully slow that it makes doing a survey extremely laborious. (Not to mention the download portion (from the internet) NEVER works as I’m guessing the Netspot servers aren’t even running.)

I’m having a somewhat parallel conversation with email support and it’s not going well (questions I ask are not answered or never understood)… they sent me a new version… 2.4.656 and i have no idea what was changed and what I’m supposed to look for. It works the same as the old one.

Iperf is working although it only works when i allowed the mac to create a second wifi key (the iCloud key). Now it’s back to asking me to “ALLOW” each and every time it changes SSID. Painful.

She also suggested I change the delay in the active scanning. I think having to enter a delay is pointless. I’ve seen it take 1 second to 25 seconds to switch SSID’s sometimes. It’s random and unpredictable. What the app needs to do is not start an active survey (iperf and download) UNTIL it knows a Wifi connection has been established. A timed value is just that: timed. I supposed I could put 30 seconds in there – won’t that be fun adding to my survey.

As far as your “no phone support” – I find in this case where there are definite issues – having me try something then having me wait 24-48 hours for a response is not effective. (Also should probably disclose EVERYWHERE when you pay for a pro version there is no phone support).

I don’t know enough about how your app works to understand how it requests Wifi keys from the keychain but its definitely an issue (judging from other entries in forum). It’s picking the iCloud key and that can never be modified to “always allow.” Only my key can be.

Also – tonight was the first time in my survey testing the new app that the UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD worked (from your server). So there’s that too.

I should be able to click the map, and have it chime when done. Right now, its about 5 clicks for the “ALWAYS ALLOW” and maybe a half dozen more clicks to TRY AGAIN. So each point is taking 5 or more minutes. Now, if I turn off Active Scanning (the whole point of my purchase) then I can get this house done.

Honestly, I need to get this project done.

If it helps – Yosemite using a trackpad on the MacBook Pro to pinch to zoom.

Here’s an update: (I will attempt to describe things since these forums don’t allow for uploading pictures)…

Since I was having problems with the CONSTANT asking to authorize, for each network, opened up the AP key in keychain and noticed that there are TWO keys for each SSID. One of them allows me to add NETSPOT” to the access control. The other one does not. It’s access control tab shows: “ACCESS ITEMS FOR THIS GROUP: apple” and is not modifiable. Adding Netspot to access control did not change anything (rebooted app and rebooted Mac). So I deleted the second key in Keychain. Then for some reason my iPhone was asking me to login to the WIFI again.

Apparently, OS X creates a copy of that key for iClod Keychain sharing…. thats what the second key is. Here’s the problem: For some reason (and this is where I have no idea what I’m talking about), when Netspot is requesting the key from keychain, it’s getting the iCloud key and not the login items key. And as such, no matter how many times you click “ALWAYS ALLOW” it will always ask because it’s not the key that can be modified.

What does this have to do with iPerf? Remember when I told you I deleted that second copy of the SSID key in the keychain? For some reason with that being gone, NETSPOT never bothers to run an IPERF test because it can’t change networks. FOr some reason NS is locked to that version of the key. Deleting all keys from keychain and reconnecting to my AP’s recreated the key and it’s iCloud copy and then NS started working again with iPerf. However, its back to asking at least 6 times for me to authorize keychain, not to mention the half dozen times it asks me to “TRY AGAIN” because it’s not smart enough to wait for the Mac to connect to the WIFI).

Before you reach for “this is a mac problem and we are simply asking for the key, I use a program called controlPlane and it is able to login to the correct WiFi and not have ask me to authorize keychain access each time.

So two problems: Netspot asking for the wrong key for the SSID (the icloud one) and Netspot not waiting for a valid wifi connection before it starts downloads or iPerf tests thus throwing up an error saying it couldnt reach the server (because the Mac was still busy connecting to the AP).

    Any ideas?

On another note: do you have phone support? Using this forum is a huge inefficient way to resolve a problem when there are definite issues and I’m just trying to get a survey done (having one side of this convo answered once a day is extremely inefficient). Thanks for your time.

Except wanted everything on the one survey. So question. I’m doing my survey to determine best placement and coverage. What is best practice: just do one ap at s time? Turn one off then swap? I wanted everything on one map. The size of the house makes things painfully slow to do one survey alone. Any thoughts?

Yep definitely. As I stated, the first 2 rooms worked. I then stopped the survey. Saved. Quit. Next day, resumed. From that point on, no more active surveying.

I see this was posted almost a year ago. Is there any update on this? I just finished making a floor plan for the house (using a piece of iOS witchcraft called RoomScan) and cleaning it up in OmniGraffle. I stared my scan when I realized that i goofed on the map in a couple places. Fixed it. But then realized that the map I used for my survey is not accessible once it’s created. I understand why it’s not a great idea (it has to be the same size and dimensions, etc), but there are some cases while it can be a useful function. Any progress on this?

I had a similar question I just posted and seeing what I think is the answer to mine, I have an idea: while doing a survey – take all your AP’s and their respective radios and give each one their own unique SSID for the survey, yes? Since the Mac is gonna grab what it’s gonna grab, maybe if they had unique names then selecting all the names in Active scanning might give a better result? Yes ? No?
