    Hello everyone!

Doing my first survey with the PRO version. I have in my home 2 AP’s that have 2 radio bands: 2.4Ghz and 5. The SSID’s for them are:

    2.4: ZuriLAN
    5: ZuriLAN 5.

Here’s the problem (or is it:)

I have chosen active scanning and I’m runing an iPerf3 server on a hardwired Mac. I create a new spot to survery, it grabs all the data for all the Wifi’s it can see, then it moves on to the iPerf tests. I know it’s switching to different SSID’s because it’s asking me to allow access to the Keychain and I can see it grabbed a different AP from the Wifi menu. Here’s my question:

If the SSID is the same name but on 2 diff AP’s – can Netspot actually choose the 2 different AP’s sharing the same name? Because when I look at my heat map for IPERF numbers it seems that it only grabs one of the 2 AP’s. The other AP’s numbers will be zero.

    Any ideas?

    THANX!

Unfortunately, NetSpot won’t be able to help in this case. Mac OS X will choose which hotspots to connect to within the same network automatically, and there’s no way for us to make it change its decision. As a possible solution, you can temporarily disable bands on your router, run the survey, enable the other bands, run it again as a new snapshot, and then compare the heatmaps.

Except wanted everything on the one survey. So question. I’m doing my survey to determine best placement and coverage. What is best practice: just do one ap at s time? Turn one off then swap? I wanted everything on one map. The size of the house makes things painfully slow to do one survey alone. Any thoughts?

The solution will be something like this: place your APs according to their ideal locations around the house first, run the survey, check the results, locate the dead zones. Relocate the APs to try and cover the dead zones. Run another survey as a separate snapshot. Compare the heatmaps. Does this help?
