ctdaweParticipantFabulous! I’ll give it a try.
ctdaweParticipantThat will be just fine with me. I have a lot of customers on 10.6.x but I run 10.8 for my own consulting work. Probably move to 10.9 shortly after release.
ctdaweParticipantGot it and love it!
ctdaweParticipantFabulous; thank you!
ctdaweParticipantSaw your note this morning and responded. Be glad to look at the beta.
ctdaweParticipantAwesome. Looking forward to it.
ctdaweParticipantOkay, I’ll keep that in mind. Would you be interested in seeing my survey file for this one?
ctdaweParticipantOkay, please keep me posted. Thanks for your feedback.
ctdaweParticipantRight, but you still do have to mouse to location A in the map and then look in Location B in the UI to read the data (unless there’s something that I’m missing). It’s less about the clicking and more about the need to target and look at two different locations onscreen.
Completely understandable that you received a different set of feedback from others.
As a completely off-the wall suggestion, it might be neat to have a menu selection that instead of displaying the heat map displays the sample results for each sample point on a non-colored map.
In any case, thank you for the feedback.
ctdaweParticipantYes, I think that these two could be binary options. My reason for preferring #1 is that with #2, I still have to click on my sample point and then move my eyes over to the left to evaluate the data. From a UI standpoint I feel like having to do that might be a less-efficient way to use the application. Popping up the information from the sample point seems like it would be a bit snappier way to casually evaluate the data.
ctdaweParticipantWondering if this “no scanning zone” idea is available in my version 2.0.265 Pro version. I’ve only done my first survey and I didn’t see the feature; wondering if I’m just not looking in the right place.
ctdaweParticipantInteresting. In my first survey with version 2.0.265 (approximately 125 sample points on a single floor in downtown Seattle), I picked up in excess of 150 networks in the area, which means that my sidebar is a little busy and tough to navigate, which I think makes spot checking sample data for a particular point in the survey a little more difficult than simply clicking on the point and having it pop up.
Wondering if it would be possible to done one of two things (in order of my preference):
1. Return the “click on sample point” functionality.
2. Visually hide all but the SSIDs/APs that I have actively selected in the sidebar, so that I only have to look at the SSIDs/APs in which I am interested.
ctdaweParticipantThat’s exactly the kind of thing I’m after. Thanks for staying with the discussion and taking my feedback seriously!
ctdaweParticipantTo be clear, what I would like to do is not so much have NetSpot estimate signal in areas that I haven’t scanned; rather, what I would like it to do is produce a final image that displays a heat map of only a desired area of a building that I have scanned thoroughly, such as *only* the interior of my building. Currently, my map is displaying data from outside the walls of my facility.
This is primarily an issue because not being able to constrain the heat map to the interior of a building makes for a more confusing picture on the part of the uneducated viewer, and may make it more difficult for me as a consultant to explain clearly what is going on.
As a secondary issue, it seems unreasonable to me that NetSpot ought to try to calculate signal strength and other wireless data in a location that I can not physically reach in order to take a sample, such as the exterior of a concrete building three stories in the air.
ctdaweParticipantAs far as 4 goes, I should probably time it with a stopwatch, but in some instances the app *feels* like it takes longer to start working on an updated display when I change criteria such as maximum signal strength or the SSID that I’m visualizing. While I’m waiting, the application doesn’t give much feedback, so it can be hard to tell what the application is doing. I suppose what I’d really like is some feedback from the app that “I’m thinking about your change.”
Alternatively, I might like to be able to engage an “edit” action in an existing survey so that I can change several parameters and then explicitly tell the application “okay, start working based on this new set of parameters”. In particular, I don’t necessary want NetSpot to start chewing on data if I’m not done updating parameters.
Does this help?
