cstroudParticipantIn a residential setting I’m fighting the channels of all the neighbors not on “my” network, and therefore not accessible by me. So, I don’t want to see their channel strength, okay, we can do that. But, I also want to reduce conflict with all of the surrounding channels and therefore pick the one that would be strongest, with the least neighborly conflict.
So I guess my question is: 1) how to do this, especially if a majority of the local routers are using the auto channel select function and constantly switching around, and 2) can you recommend a good source that explains actually how to effectively increase the wifi network coverage once i’ve mapped the weak spots, boosters and all internally and externally for total property coverage, not theoretically, but informatively and practically, so I can buy something(s) install, remap, and get on with using the computer effectively?
Thanks for any input!

cstroudParticipantbtw, great program-love it! Saving me $$$ (I think) if I can figure this all out as a neophyte.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi Craig, thanks for giving NetSpot a try! First of all, we would really love to have a look at your project to recommend something more practical. All other advice will be theoretical as we have no idea what exactly we are dealing with. And you are definitely right that it might be tough to deal with auto-switching neighboring networks conflicting your own configured wireless net. In most cases installing additional APs is the only solution. However, having a better look at your map will definitely help. NetSpot 2.0 will actually attempt to provide you with hints and recommendations that might help you resolve identifiable issues.
