kliqksParticipantRunning Pro version of 2.3.509
MacBook Air 10.9.4
I am connected to my own network via hidden SSID, but the discover intermittently see’s my network. When in survey, my own network seems to be the only one it doesn’t record correctly. This is very frustrating. I tried a separate user profile as well.
During survey, I tried it both ways by adding the checkbox in the hidden networks and by not adding it. With it added, I get just bad results of 0db in 99% of the house, even standing next to the AP’s. All other networks from neighbors show fine. What gives?August 30, 2014 at 6:45 am #2573
Alex – NetSpotKeymasterJust as a test, can you try to make the network visible to public (unhide its SSID for a while)? Does this fix the issue?
It does seem there’s a similar issue here: /help/talk/topic/survey-does-not-show-hidden-network/
We are looking into it.

kliqksParticipantYes, that is what I did and it worked fine; however, that is not the optimal approach to doing surveys on networks that are hidden as a norm.
So, not sure what to do to make it survey hidden networks that I’m connected to and do not need to add credentials, due to the fact that I’m connected to it already.
Looks like we have a bug / issue / challenge

kliqksParticipantBTW, I did this same survey on my network a few months ago on the free version and it worked just fine. So not sure what the difference is.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt does seem to be a bug. We are checking what can be causing it. Hm… one of the latest Apple’s updates? We are working on this issue right now.

kliqksParticipantMy previous post was in error. I don’t believe that I was able to scan the same network with the hidden SSID as it eluded to. I don’t think that is a feature in the free version anyway. I’m sure I had a successful scan; however, I’m also sure that I had to broadcast the SSID for it to work.
However, I have the Pro version now, and it should be able to scan/recognize/collect data on my hidden network that I am attached to.Has there been any update to resolving this? Is there any more information that I can provide?

kliqksParticipantStill not able to see my own hidden network in Survey or Discover. No updates to the app either. And why would my Preferences be greyed out? Pretty sad

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi again, kliqks, and my apologies for the delayed reply in this thread. We were handling a number of tests to reproduce the issue you are having, and also waited for some of our team members in the field to report their results after testing many scenarios like yours. In fact, neither of us was able to reproduce the problem with scanning of the hidden SSIDs. Just to proceed with troubleshooting, is it possible that you could clear all known wireless networks in your Mac’s Network Preferences, connect to them again and see whether the survey process is able to detect them?

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterIt would also help if you could “Send feedback” to us from the app itself, so we could get more details about your Mac. MacBooks from Mid 2013 and Early 2014 are known to have issues with WiFi adapters.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterAnd another hint from my team, to better troubleshoot this, don’t forget to disable Bluetooth on your Mac.
September 19, 2014 at 7:55 am #2593
kliqksParticipantI’m still having the same issue while doing what you suggested – Turned off Bluetooth, deleted all wifi connection profiles and even switched user profiles. Still don’t see my own connected Hidden SSID network.
FYI- Sent all this in a Feedback as well

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterMore users are reporting similar issue. Can you confirm that the problem takes place on OS X 10.10 Yosemite? If yes, is there any chance to test the same with the older Mac OS X releases (like 10.9.5)?

GeofredusParticipantI have an Apple Time capsule and two Airport express routers in bridge mode to provide wifi coverage for my house. Like the original poster, I have to broadcast my network name to get a reliable discovery mode under Yosemite 10.10.2. However, only one Express is shown; the other is invisible although Airport Utility shows it exists. This is also true using NetSpot under Snow Leopard (10.6.8).

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterSo, let me verify this: you are saying that NetSpot detects the visible network, and does not see the hidden SSID in Discover Mode, is this correct? If yes, then it’s the normal behavior, as hidden networks will not show up in Discover Mode, at least for the current version of NetSpot.

GeofredusParticipantSorry if I wasn’t clear enough.
In Discovery Mode without SSID broadcasting, my Time Capsule would display intermittently and show zero signal strength. In Discovery mode with SSID broadcasting, I can consistently see my Time Capsule (about -58 dBm) and only one of two Airport Expresses (about -40 dBm). The visible one is a floor above me; the invisible one is about 10 feet away from laptop running NetSpot.
Airport Utility connects to all three APs.
