CharlieParticipantI just returned home from a trip overseas only to find that my wife changed our WiFi password. She is away on business until next week so now I am faced with either 1. using my 3G for the next week, 2. busting the lock on the storage cabinet where our ADSL modem and router are located, 3. using our imac for the next few days except for it doesn’t have my software on it or 4. cracking the password to our WiFi network. Our network is WEP and I have heard this will not be too difficult. So I found out Aircrack-ng can be used on our Mac. My question is: Can NetSpot be used to gather the data required for Aircrack-ng to figure out the password for our network? If so, please explain how. Thanks!

CharlieParticipantOh I forgot to mention she of course does not remember what she set the new password to. She just entered it into her iPad and iPhone and then went on her merry way!

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterUnfortunately not. We are very careful about not adding any features that could shift NetSpot’s clean profile from being a perfect wireless site survey tool into a shady sniffer or cracking app that could be easily prohibited in leading countries.

CharlieParticipantAlex, I don’t think anybody is going to be prohibiting your software. Right now your software right now is very similar to iStumbler which is free. I don’t think anybody would complain if you added features.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterCharlie, iStumbler doesn’t have any surveying capabilities, and all discovery features are free in NetSpot as well (plus export). We are speaking about hacking features here, aren’t we? And these ones are those we don’t see any place in NetSpot for, currently.
