I just ran my first survey of a customer site, a single floor office in downtown Seattle with approximately 3500-4000 square feet of space.

Because of the construction of the building (it’s shot through with 3′ concrete structural columns on a grid), I too some very specific approaches to sampling, specifically that I attempted to sample near the columns from multiple sides of each column, so that effects of reflection and interference would be accounted for. The upshot was that I ended up with some sample points relatively close together, and 125 sample points altogether.

Do you think that this is a reasonable approach to an environment where there are construction elements likely to be causing attenuation? Do you know if there is a better way to approach something like this?

Hi Dawe, we don’t think that it’s important to sample around each of the columns, it’s more efficient to get data between them. General recommendation would be: if there are many obstacles in your area, try to sample more frequently.

Okay, I’ll keep that in mind. Would you be interested in seeing my survey file for this one?
