fo0barParticipantFor me my 5Ghz Accesspoints do not show up. I’ve read some article about NetSpot where it was said that it should actually do this, but it seems not to be doing it.
All 5Ghz APs do actually broadcast their SSID but do not get captured (and of course not visualized).
Can this be added?

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterHi there, that’s not true, NetSpot is capable of surveying all Wi-Fi frequencies. Is there the same SSID on multiple frequencies, and those Access Points that are broadcasting on 5GHz are not detected by NetSpot, but those on 2.4 are? Can you send us your .netspd project for review?
Thank you

fo0barParticipantSure, can do it, to what address should i send it?
There are 2 airport extreme running. one is a 2nd gen, one a 5th gen.
The 2nd gen is transmitting on 5Ghz only and has a dedicated SSID with WPA2 as encryption. the SSID is “fo0bar WPA2”.
The 5th gen is able to transmit on 2.4 and 5ghz simulanously. the encryption for it is WPA2 enterprise and the SSID is “fo0bar” for 2.4ghz and “fo0bar 5ghz” for 5ghz (with each having a dedicated BSSID).
none of the SSIDs is configured as a closed network (all SSID are broadcasted).
only “fo0bar” (the 2.4ghz SSID) is showing up in netspot. both 5ghz networks are not listed.

warnichParticipantTry to connect to one of your 5GHz networks before making the survey
February 6, 2012 at 12:34 pm #1592
fo0barParticipantI did, does not change anything. The 5GHz SSIDs do not get listed.
I was actually connected to one of the 5Ghz SSIDs when doing the survey that i sent to netspotter. Of course I redid it when being connected to my 2.4Ghz SSID and while not connected to any SSID.
Whatever I tried the 5Ghz nonhidden SSIDs did not show up.
No other 5Ghz SSIDs showed up (but according to iStumbler I am the only one running 5Ghz Wifi in my range).

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe keep investigating this. Thanks for sending the project. Can you also take a screenshot of your Wi-Fi network configuration from the Airport Utility for Airport Extreme and for TimeCapsule (and email it to me)?

fo0barParticipantI just sent the requested screenshots, as well as a screenshot of iStumbler showing the 5Ghz networks just fine.

uFoGuyParticipantFwiw, I have 5 access points, including a 5MHz, all of which show up fine. The mapped signal strengths are accurately shown. Nice. Can’t wait to get outdoors (brrr) and snoop around on my spaceship. Aye!

Alex – NetSpotKeymaster2ufoguy: nice, man!
2foobar: got ’em, I’ll update you shortly.

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterWe have an updated build of NetSpot where this issue is supposedly fixed. Sent it to foobar. Waiting for your update on this bug.
February 10, 2012 at 6:50 am #1605
fo0barParticipantthank for the updated version. will try it out once i get back home from office.
February 10, 2012 at 12:42 pm #1606
fo0barParticipantThe build detects my 5Ghz networks fine (but no other networks ;)
February 10, 2012 at 12:51 pm #1607
fo0barParticipantScanning takes about double time now, but it scans fine (only the 5Ghz networks, no 2.4Ghz). I was not asked to limit the range on the map after loading the map and giving it the distance of 2 fixed points.
I sent the netspot project file to NetSpotter. Enjoy ;)

Alex – NetSpotKeymasterGot everything, and I’m sending you the newer build now. It should be working fine for all ranges now. And yes, since the newer release, there’s no need to specify survey borders any more.
