I have an enterprise AP that allows me to define up to 16 virtual SSIDs for the same physical radio. It seems that NetSpot recognizes them separately (as it should). Problem is with determining SIR. Signal of both virtual APs are 100% correlated since they share the same physical radio and therefor my SIR in near 0dB.

Any way to bind virtual AP’s to be counted as 1?

It would be extremely interesting to have a look at your survey. Can you email your project file (.netspd) to onair@netspotapp.com?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have the same question with Netspot 2.4. I tried a survey last week on network with 3 SSID (VAP) on 9 AP.

All VAP are detected as separate AP in Netspot. So SIR is not usable as it always show a value near 0..

I will redo the survey without VAP… But it would be nice if there was a way to merge VAP manually or being able to remove VAP by SSID from the result… This would be useful when we survey a wifi network on production..

Or maybe I missed something and there is already a way to do this ?

    Thank you

@stuntman, this issue was already reported back in 2012. Should have been resolved in one of the builds at that time. I’m forwarding this to my team now to see if there’s anything that can be done now. I might have more requests for info, though…

Hi, I will be glad to help if you need information or to test.

Just to add a little more info I’m using Fortinet AP. When using multiple SSID on the same AP it create Virtual AP (VAP) with each a different MAC (only first 2 character are changing)

SSID on Same AP with different MAC exemple :

    SSID1: TEST1 08:5B:0E:B6:64:75
    SSID2: TEST2 1A:5B:0E:B6:64:75
    SSID3: TEST3 2A:5B:0E:B6:64:75

Let me know if you need more info.

    Thank you

In this case, as you can see, the virtual SSIDs differ in the first octet. Our solution was joining multi-SSID APs by the last octet, which is more common. With the above example, it’s not possible to be done automatically. And the manual feature is not yet available. But we hear you, and will do our best to add it in the nearest future.

    Hi,

Ok thank you! I think its more logic for a VAP to change the first octet as the first octet are related to the manufacturer and normaly only the end change between AP. Changing last octet in VAP could cause duplicate mac on the same network. Probably the reason fortinet are doing it this way…

I took another survey today with only one enabled VAP. Its working very well! Thank you for this app! This will help me a lot in my work.
