But has Xfinity attracted so many customers because it provides the most value or because it’s often the only high-speed internet option available? In this review, we’re taking a detailed look at Xfinity internet plans, coverage, customer support, and more to answer this important question.

Xfinity by Comcast Internet Plans

Xfinity by Comcast customers can choose from multiple plans based on which region they live in. The cost of otherwise identical plans is often different for each region. That’s because Xfinity plans are priced based on individual local market dynamics.

Northeast Division:

Plan Speeds Limit Cost (standard rate)
Performance Starter 50/5 Mbps No limit from $65 a month
Performance 100/5 Mbps No limit from $84 a month
Performance Pro 300/10 Mbps No limit from $89 a month
Blast 600/10 Mbps No limit from $94 a month
Extreme Pro 900/20 Mbps No limit from $99 a month
Gigabit 1,200/35 Mbps No limit from $104 a month
Gigabit Pro 3,000/ 3,000 Mbps No limit from $300 a month

The two most interesting plans available in the Northeastern US are Performance and Performance Pro. The former is interesting because you don’t have to sign a contract to get it, while the latter is interesting because it offers highly competitive speeds for just $5 more than what the Performance plan costs.

Central Division:

Plan Speeds Limit Cost (standard rate)
Connect 50/5 Mbps 1.2 TB from $49 a month
Connect More 100/5 Mbps 1.2 TB from $69 a month
Fast 300/10 Mbps 1.2 TB from $79 a month
Superfast 600/10 Mbps 1.2 TB from $89 a month
Ultrafast 900/20 Mbps 1.2 TB from $99 a month
Gigabit Extra 1,200/35 Mbps 1.2 TB from $109 a month
Gigabit Pro 3,000/ 3,000 Mbps 1.2 TB from $300 a month

Customers in the Central US can get the equivalent of the cost-effective Performance Pro plan, called Fast, for $10 less than what customers in the Northeastern US have to pay for what’s essentially the same plan. Unfortunately, all Central US plans come with a 1.2 TB monthly data cap.

West Division:

Plan Speeds Limit Cost (standard rate)
Connect 50/5 Mbps 1.2 TB from $50 a month
Connect More 100/5 Mbps 1.2 TB from $60 a month
Fast 300/10 Mbps 1.2 TB from $70 a month
Superfast 600/10 Mbps 1.2 TB from $80 a month
Ultrafast 900/20 Mbps 1.2 TB from $90 a month
Gigabit Extra 1,200/35 Mbps 1.2 TB from $100 a month
Gigabit Pro 3,000/ 3,000 Mbps 1.2 TB from $300 a month

Xfinity internet plans intended for the Western US also come with a 1.2 TB monthly cap, and they cost even less than their counterparts from the Central US.

As you can see, all Xfinity internet plans are asymmetrical, which means that your download speeds will always greatly exceed your upload speeds. That’s just how things are with cable internet.

The good news is that any speed test of Xfinity plans is guaranteed to confirm that all plans are fast enough for basic online tasks, such as web browsing, emailing, instant messaging, online gaming, and content consumption.

The limited upload speeds can become a problem when multiple people who are all sharing the same internet connection have to attend online video calls at the same time, or when one person starts uploading a large file.

To make the most out of any Xfinity plan, you will need a good router. For extra $14 a month, Xfinity will happily rent you an xFi Gateway, a sleek device that combines an internet/voice modem with a fast Wi-Fi router. There are several xFi Gateways to choose from, and they all come with advanced security to protect you from online threats. Since there are no dedicated Xfinity Wi-Fi plans, paying the extra monthly rental fee is the only alternative to supplying your own Wi-Fi router.

We also recommend you use a Wi-Fi analyzer like NetSpot to optimize the placement and configuration of your router.

You can also use the speed test Xfinity app to see how fast your current internet connection is so that you have solid reference data to use for comparison purposes later.

Xfinity by Comcast Internet Extras

Besides Xfinity internet plans, Comcast also offers TV, phone, and home security services. By bundling these services with Xfinity internet, you can unlock discounted prices. The only problem is that Comcast’s discounted bundles don’t include all available Xfinity internet plans, so you may not be able to pick the plan that interests you the most.

Xfinity by Comcast Internet Extras

All internet-only customers get free access to Xfinity Flex, an over-the-top internet television service owned by Comcast. The service includes over 10,000 free movies and shows and provides a simple, aggregated television experience where live news and sports live alongside streaming subscriptions.

We should also mention that Xfinity runs one of the largest network of Wi-Fi hotspots in the country, called Xfinity WiFi, and access to the network is included for free with Xfinity internet plans.

Last year, Xfinity ran a promotion campaign that allowed new customers to get up to $300 in Visa gift cards for signing up Xfinity internet. The time-limited promotion campaign ended a long time ago, but it’s possible that another similar campaign will launch this year.

Xfinity by Comcast Internet Customer Service & Satisfaction

You can get in touch with Xfinity’s customer service by:

A recent American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) revealed that Xfinity’s customer service is improving, jumping from 61 out of 100 to 67 out of 100 in just a few years. This tells us that Xfinity is listening to its customers and taking the steps necessary to improve their satisfaction. Hopefully, this trend will continue, and Xfinity customer service will keep improving.

On BroadBandNow, Xfinity customers rate the provider a 3.5 stars out of 5, earning it the 8th place among the 10 internet providers whose customers were surveyed by BroadBandNow’s editorial team.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

I decided to make the switch to Xfinity. I'm just wondering why I didn't make the switch sooner. I'm now saving money with faster speeds and after adding Google mesh Wi-Fi it's taking my experience to a whole new level. Thank you, Xfinity for taking the headache out of my Internet experience by making it affordable and reliable.

First time Xfinity subscriber. Exceeded my expectations. I can honestly say I was very impressed with all aspects of Xfinity. I just purchased a home in Delray Beach FL. From the initial appointment call to complete installation, Xfinity exceeded my expectations.

I had a problem with internet connectivity. The service person from Xfinity who came today (May 25) was outstanding. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and patient -- a real pro. He checked outdoor connections, the indoor cable, the modem, etc., and kept going until the problem was resolved. I hope Xfinity gives him a commendation for his great work.

Summary

There are many reasons to like Xfinity internet. Independent Xfinity speed tests rank the service favorably when compared with other ISPs. Xfinity plans are available in most parts of the country, and there’s a lot of them to choose from. Customers don’t need to purchase any Xfinity WiFi plans to access the company’s large Wi-Fi hotspot network, making it easy for them to remain connected even when on the go.

By bundling Xfinity internet with other services offered by Comcast, it’s possible to make the already fairly competitive internet prices even more attractive. We just wish Xfinity would finally get rid of its restrictive data caps across all regions.
